Identify a Niche Topic

The easiest way when choosing a niche, is to choose something you are actually interested in.

When you are actually interested in the topic or one you’re even passionate about, it makes coming up with content so much easier.

SEO Keyword Planning

Planning what keywords you’ll target and create content for is one of the most important aspects of a successful site.

You want to choose keywords that get enough searches, but not so broad you’ll have too much competition from authority sites.

You’ll have to do a bunch of searching in google to get a better idea of what the competition for the keywords looks like.

Quality of the search results is helpful to determine if it’s worth the time investment.

For example, if you are thinking of targeting a keyword, and the first 10 search results are by authority sites with high quality content, don’t bother.

Authority sites have so many backlinks and reputation, there’s little chance you’re going to be able to have any success.

On the contrary, if you get a little more specific with your targeted keywords and get results from forums or other low authority sites, this is the ideal situation.

One quick hack to see how much of an authority the search results have is by doing a backlink check.

How To Check Domain Authority and Backlinks

Search the keyword in google you are interested in creating content for.

Look at the top 5 results.

  1. Right click the top result title and “copy link address”
  2. Go to aHrefs backlink tool
  3. Paste in the link you copied

This will output a Domain rank and number of backlinks to the page.

The more keyword research you do, most of the time you won’t need to check the backlinks or domain rank.

You will just know by the names of the authority sites.

This can take some time, but it will be time well spent because it will not be wasted on creating content no one will ever find.

Content Creation

A great method for creating great content is to devise actual content and direct people to review pages.

Don’t just start with reviewing products as your content and expect to rake in the cash.

A problem with just reviewing products only is two fold.

  1. No ones searching for a review on a cheap, low end product. So if you are starting with reviews, make sure it makes sense commission wise to do this.
You will find however, there’s already thousands of pages reviewing the same product. Including the amazon reviews themselves.
  2. You limit the search keywords to just product reviews. This is topic limiting. If you can write content around how to “how to change an oil filter” give all great content and link to a product to make the task easier, that’s a winner.
